Christina Aguilera turned around the first time Brittney hit a glory note. Blake Shelton joined her late in the performance. Brittney opted to join Team Blake.

Her background: Brittney says she heard her first Dixie Chicks CD when she was 5 years old. “That was it. I wanted to be a singer,” she told The Voice. She also started cheerleading when she was 5, and she’s been coaching cheerleading since she was a freshman in high school. She also works full-time for a textbook company and is studying online to become a teacher. “But out of everything I do, singing is by far my greatest passion.” She entered her first singing competition in middle school and says she’s done everything she can since to improve. Oh, and she had auditioned for The Voice six times without landing in front of the celebrity coaches.

What the show didn’t show:

  • Brittney has won several singing competitions, including Florida’s Gospel Entertainer of the Year and Vocalist of the Year from 2010-2012.
  • According to her website bio, Brittney sings a wide variety of music, including jazz, country, pop, gospel and rock. On Facebook, she lists her preferred genres as country and southern rock.
  • She’s performed the national anthem for the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Tampa Bay Rays.
  • In April 2014, according to her website bio, she participated in one of the nation’s largest crowd-funded festivals, One Spark, which attracted more than 270,000 people from all over the world. She was voted one of the top 10 musicians at the festival.
  • She also has performed at a large number of nonprofit and charity events, including for the Humane Society, the Relay for Life and for events benefiting veterans and raising awareness about teen suicide.
  • As for those previous Voice auditions, Brittney said she’d advanced past the first round previously, but never quite made it onto the televised auditions. “That’s usually where I would not get the call to continue, which is cool, you know. When I first started, I thought ‘I have a chance.’ And then I would go out there and hear all of this amazing talent and go, ‘Well, I’d better work on it.’ Apparently, the work worked.
  • Brittney’s a bit at a loss to explain why she selected Blake over Christina, especially since she won her very first singing competition performing a Christina song. “I was completely shocked myself that I went with him over her,” she said in a conference call with the media. “I never thought I’d choose anybody over Christina. She is like my idol; I always loved singing her stuff. But I’m really happy that I went with Blake. He’s a great guy, and he’s hilarious and he’s an awesome coach.
