Meet and hear more from Natalie Yacovazzi of The Voice Season 10

Natalie Yacovazzi of The Voice Season 10. (NBC Photo)Her audition: Natalie Yacovazzi, 28, of Chicago, Ill., auditioned with a high-energy performance of Kelly Clarkson’s “Mr. Know It All.” She earned an early chair turn from Adam Levine, the coach she expressed the most interest in working with pre-audition. Christina Aguilera turned as well, but too late for it to count, meaning Natalie wound up on Team Adam.

Her background: Natalie auditioned for Season 9, but failed to turn a chair. In her pre-audition interview, she called that experience “devastating.” She’s a single mom and a credit card processor. After last year’s audition, she says “I went home and I not only focused on my voice, I focused on myself. I wanted to be back here as healthy and ready as I can be.” She considered her Season 10 audition “my last chance at making a name for myself in the music industry.” She also wanted to show her daughter, Aria, that it makes a difference to never give up.

What the show didn’t show:

  • Natalie is the lead singer for Spoken Four, a Chicago-based band that performs at corporate events, weddings, festivals, night clubs and casinos. According to its website, the band play covers “from the 50s to today’s Top 40.”
  • In a video introducing her as the band’s newest member, Natalie says she’s been singing since she was very young. “My mom said she would hear me humming tunes in my crib.”
  • Her Voice bio says she’s performed in several Chicago-area bands. Natalie explains that when she moved from Ohio to Chicago she started going to church and singing on the worship team. One of the directors was an owner of a cover band and asked if she’d be interested in singing with them.
  • Since then, Natalie says “I’ve sung with some bands nobody knows in Chicago” and with some of the best-known bands in the city, including her current one. She also performed many times with 7th Heaven, the well-known Chicago band that used to have Voice Season 9 standout Keith Semple as its front man.
  • Among her biggest musical influences, she points to Paul McCartney, Billy Joel and Whitney Houston
  • Natalie sang “Oh Darling” by The Beatles for her Season 9 audition. She says it’s a song she “absolutely loves” and that she performs it “in a different type of style” with her band. But, in hindsight, she says she’s not certain it was the best choice for an audition on The Voice.
  • As for her pick this time around? She describes “Mr. Know it All” as “something more in my wheelhouse. Something that I connected with the lyrics far more … Also for me, it was kind of like showing the judges: ‘You don’t know me. You didn’t get to see who I really am the first time.’ I kind of robbed myself of that. I was too nervous and didn’t really show what I could do.”
  • Natalie says her vocal style has been compared to Kelly Clarkson, “which is always a compliment, because I think she is just a queen.”
  • On iTunes: Just her performance from The Voice.
