His background: According to his bio on The Voice website, Trey’s dad used to have him dress up like Elvis and perform. He eventually joined school choirs. That bio says he eventually became the only male soloist among the 250 best choir singers in the country. He now attends college, working at a law library and balancing academics with his pursuit of a career in music.

What the show didn’t show:

  • He entered a talent show as an Elvis impersonator when he was just one and one-half years old, singing “Blue Suede Shoes.”
  • He’s now based in Fayetteville, Ark., and has been performing around northwest Arkansas since 2013, according to his website bio.
  • He describes his music as ranging from pop to rock, “all with a soulful edge.”
  • He’s opened for Barrett Baber, a finalist on The Voice Season 9. And among the many videos you’ll find on his YouTube channel is a performance described as “a spontaneous duet” with former American Idol finalist Casey Abrams.
  • Trey is studying business at the University of Arkansas, where he’s been invited to sing the national anthem at Razorback sporting events on a number of occasions.
  • To bring the Elvis story full circle, Trey recorded a cover of “That’s All Right” at Sun Studios “in the very room” where Elvis recorded. Among his backing musicians: Dave Roe, former bassist for Johnny Cash. The song is available on iTunes.
  • Trey also released a five-track EP of original music in December. “Haven’t Lost the Magic” is a standout track.
  • Trey said he decided to sing “Geronimo” for his audition because “it’s a super fun song, super high energy. I think it fit me and what I like to do best.”
  • The “funny part”, Trey adds, it that it was his mom who introduced him to the song, suggesting he perform it at his gigs. “I looked it up and said alright and started performing it. Who would have known I’d end up auditioning with the song? It’s almost prophetic. I had blast up there. I’m really glad Blake saw something in me.”

  • On iTunes: His Voice cover, the 5-track self-titled EP from 2015, his cover of “That’s All Right” and a single called “Nice Guys Finish Last” from 2014.
