Jonathan Bach of The Voice Season 10. (NBC Photo)His audition: Jonathan Bach, 20, of Ann Arbor, Mich., auditioned with Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way.” His performance was montaged with two other singers, so we got to see just a snippet. But he prompted a chair turn from Pharrell Williams, who praised Jonathan’s vocal control.

His background: The Voice website tells us that Jonathan is the son of two Iraqi immigrants “who aren’t entirely supportive of his musical aspirations.” He sang in choir and a cappella groups in high school. And he’s attending the University of Michigan as a pre-med student.

What the show didn’t show:

  • On Facebook, Jonathan describes his music as pop/soul.
  • He’s also posted this motto there: “When the world tries to quiet you, let it push you to #SingLouder!” The Voice website tells us Jonathan was bullied throughout high school.
  • That bullying is one reason Jonathan says he decided to audition with an acoustic, “more emotional” version of “Born This Way.” His take: “The message of the song is that you are perfect just the way you are.”
  • His YouTube channel seems to have been discontinued, but head to Vine and you can listen to several snippets of Jonathan singing.
  • We saw Jonathan drop to his knees at the end of his performance. He said that’s because he was “in awe that he (Pharrell Williams) saw something in me that I was even doubting I saw in myself.”
  • At the University of Michigan, he’s part of a coed a cappella group called Amazin’ Blue, which has 13 albums to its credit and released a five-track EP last spring. Embedded below, you’ll find two videos on which he’s a featured vocalist.
