Her audition: Lexi Luca, 17, of Wellington, Fla., auditioned with “Wasting All These Tears,” the first single released by Season 4 Voice winner Cassadee Pope. Lexi said she felt honored to sing the song because she looks up to Cassadee. One coach, Blake, turned for her performance. Lexi admits she skipped the last note of the song because she was crying for joy that she had made a team on Season 6.

Her background: The Voice showed only a tiny snippet of her audition and didn’t introduce us to Lexi, but the show’s website says she started taking music more seriously two years ago when she wrote and performed a song in memory of a close friend who had died.

What the show didn’t show: According to her Facebook bio, Lexi started taking voice lessons at age 10 and has been performing ever since. “I sing country-pop,” Lexi said in a conference call with the media. “I started off singing country when I was a little younger, so I’m always finding myself back at country, but it’s more of a country-pop thing.” She already has four songs on iTunes, including a fine tune called “It’s Not Over” that was released as part of a suicide prevention effort last August. She’s also performed for charities, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the American Cancer Society and the Ronald McDonald House. That Facebook bio also tells us that she previously auditioned for The X Factor and Season 12 of American Idol.

On having Blake as a coach: Lexi said she was fine that Blake was the only coach to turn “because he was the first choice in my head.” In her Voice video she says: “Having the opportunity to work with Blake is crazy. I know he’s going to give me really great feedback and teach me different things. I’m just really excited to see where everything goes.”

On iTunes: Her audition song, the aforementioned original, another original called “Doin’ It for You” and cover of “Dark Side” (yes, the Kelly Clarkson song) and “Begin Again.” You can hear full versions on her ReverbNation page.

Update: She lost to Jake Worthington in the first battle round; they sang “It Goes Like This” by Thomas Rhett.
