Her audition: Lindsay Pagano, 27, of Philadelphia, Pa., auditioned with “Lady Marmalade” and describes it as a pretty tense, nerve-wracking experience. “I had all these moments in my song where I thought, ‘Oh, maybe somebody will turn around on this point or this point,'” she said in a conference call with the media. “By the time I got all the way to the end, they were still not facing me.” Then, at the last moment, Shakira turned her chair.

Her background: The Voice showed just a tiny snippet of Lindsay’s audition, but her brief bio on the show’s website says she started her music career at a very young age, was signed to a label at 13 and toured with Aaron Carter before losing her record deal. It says she now works in a dentist’s office and performs as a wedding singer on the side.

What the show didn’t show: Lindsay was signed to Warner Brothers Records as a teen and released an album in 2001 called “Love, Faith and Inspiration.” One song — “Everything U R” — was used in an AOL commercial and became the theme song for a show on the WB network. And in this Billboard story, Lindsay talks about Paul McCartney visiting the studio where she was recording the album and dancing to another song called “Romeo.” He even provided some ad-libbed vocals on one track. There were apparently plans for a followup album in 2009, but only one single made it to iTunes. She now performs in a Philly-based dance band called the Heartbeats that performs more than 200 dates per year, according to their website.

On having Shakira as a coach: “To be on the only girl’s team really means a lot,” Lindsay says in her Voice video. “I’m hoping she can teach me to be a really good performer. I feel like I’ve always kind of fallen back on what my voice sounds like and how to communicate a message as far as audio goes, but I’ve never been shown how to work a stage or command an audience.”

On iTunes: Her audition song, that 2001 album and a 2009 single called “I’ve Got a Song.”

Update: She lost to Ddendyl in the battle round; they sang “I Feel the Earth Move.”
