Meet Jacquie Lee of Team Christina on The Voice

Her audition: Jacquie Lee, 16, of Colts Neck, N.J., opted to sing Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black” for her blind audition. Big challenge for a teenager, right? But no problem for Jacquie, who sounded older than her age and showed determination in continuing to belt out the number when the judges were slow to spin their chairs. Just before the song ended, Blake and Christina did so.

Background: A junior in high school, Jacquie Lee says she’s also into sports — soccer, field hockey and tennis — but really likes singing, especially for charities and at the children’s hospital near her hometown. She started singing around age 11, she told The Voice, though she admitted she does not come from a musical family “at all. It’s like a big loud, large Italian family. We eat a lot,” she said with a laugh.

On picking Christina: “I have been listening to her my whole life … and she is sort of like my role model. And she knows what it feels like to be a young girl in the industry, so that was very relatable to me. She has a phenomenal voice, and there’s so much she could teach me.”

What the show didn’t show: On Facebook, Jacquie Lee describes herself as a folk-soul artist who writes songs about teenage life and young love. You can listen to one of her originals below. You can also hear her “House of the Rising Sun” performance from the Freehold Idol competition she won last year at age 15. Her Facebook page also indicates that she planned to release a debut EP in the fall, a plan her participation in The Voice might have delayed. Oh, and in a conference call interview the day after her audition aired, she said she likes eating gelatin-filled gummy bears before performing.

Quote: Cee Lo Green was absolutely fascinated by the bejeweled boots Jacquie Lee wore for her audition. They came from Vera Wang. “I would have definitely taken them off and given them to Cee Lo in the moment,” she said.

On iTunes: Just her Voice performance.
