Tim Atlas of The Voice Season 9His audition: Tim Atlas, 26, of San Jose, Calif., covered Ed Sheeran’s “Give Me Love” in a blind audition that was part of a montage package. He landed on Team Gwen, who complimented him on “the heart” he poured into the performance.

His background: We didn’t get to meet Tim on the show, but The Voice website tells us his parents divorced we he was very young and he eventually decided to live with his dad. When they started to encounter some financial challenges, Tim used music as an outlet, joining the marching band, jazz band and drumline, and teaching himself guitar. He attended college and earned a bachelor’s degree in photography. He now works as a studio engineer on other artists’ records and albums.

More on Tim: Tim played guitar for an alternative rock band called April Chase that was fronted by Carina Valdes. The band released two EPs — “Still Breathing” in 2011 and “In the Midst of Sirens” in 2010. Then, in the summer of 2013, Tim launched a KickStarter campaign to fund his own EP.

Here’s part of what he wrote at the time: “For those of you that know me, you’d know that music has been at the center of my life for as long as I can remember. … After years of songwriting, playing for bands & other artists, and immersing myself in a community of talented individuals, I finally feel ready to take on my first record as a singer-songwriter.” The campaign was a success, and Tim released his EP later that year. Be sure to check out “Settled in Sound” (embedded below); another standout track is “Out of Time.”

As for the blind audition we didn’t get to see, Tim said he was disappointed that it wound up as part of a montage package, but thrilled to see how much support he got just from “15 seconds of being on television.” He said Gwen turned around during the first line of a performance that he thought “went well.” You can listen to his blind audition song below. Check it out; Tim sounds very good.
